Dancing the Weekend Away

Hi lovelies!

What a wonderful weekend it has been! Of course, the highlight of my weekend was Ring Dance in the new MSC and doing almost nothing the rest of the weekend. Friday night was rather uneventful (and I don't hardly remember it) except that I went to Charming Charlie and didn't find ANYTHING to wear with my dress. Saturday was rather boring up until I started getting ready for Ring Dance around 2pm. I started on my hair at 3:00, and didn't finish until almost 6:00. A whole three hours to do my hair is ridiculous, but I guess that's what I get for wanting to curl my thick hair. And it was definitely worth it. Andrew took me out for dinner at Texas Roadhouse (we had a coupon for a free appetizer), we took our pictures in front of the ring before the actual dance, and danced the night away!

The best part though was the friends that I got to see. Some of them I see almost every single day, and there were others who I hadn't seen in months, or even a whole year. And the people that you go with (rather than just as a single couple) really does make all the difference!

I have several pictures on my camera, but since I'm on campus all day you'll just have to wait for those pictures. In the meantime, here's a photo from the end of the night:

Andrew has the hardest time keeping his eyes open during pictures. So irritating. Oh well!

Heaven Is For Real

About a week or so ago, I finally finished reading Heaven is For Real, which tells a true life story about a little boy named Colton who experiences going to heaven while having surgery when he was four years old. The story is told by his father, Todd Burpo, who is a pastor in a small-town city of Nebraska. The story begins with Todd telling the story about the different health issues he had, and just when the Burpo family can see light at the end of the tunnel, Colton gets sick. Nurses and doctors don't give much hope to Todd & Sonja as Colton is whisked away into surgery, but after a second surgery, Colton is healed completely. In the following months, Colton begins to tell his story to his parents, and it changes their lives forever. Todd tells Colton's story from his perspective, describing thing so simply and yet the words are powerful.

Heaven is For Real is an amazing story, and it reads very quickly! At the same time it really makes you think hard about your life and faith. I highly recommend that you read it!

Special Weekend Ahead

Every year towards the end of April, graduating seniors have a time to come together as a class (before graduation) and celebrate one last time. It's called Ring Dance (very much like prom) and it's kind of a big deal. Andrew and I went last year--you can read about that here--and had a blast. The only problem was that wearing a long dress was AWFUL. I was so warm the entire time, and by the end of the night I felt gross. So, the next few days are going to be my only chance to go shopping. I have no idea what I'm looking for, and I would imagine that most of the prom-style dresses have already been bought. My goal for the dress is for it to be fun and flirty, yet sophisticated. I hope that whatever I find can be worn for my graduation!

The other problem is that I really don't enjoy shopping by myself. I feel like I need someone with me to tell me whether or not the dress looks good on me. But of course I don't have anybody to go with me, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Wish me luck! And if you're free tonight come shopping with me!!

Birthday Girl

No it's not my birthday (yet!) is one of my best friend's 23rd birthday! We met at the end of our freshman year through a mutual friend, became close friends, then roommates, and then she graduated and left me behind. Just kidding! Like any normal friendship, we sometimes fall in and out of touch because life is busy, but we always manage to pick up right where we left off or spend a lot of time catching up.

She sent this to me in a text a few days ago, and it describes our relationship pretty perfectly :)

So here's to another year of being best friends! I can't wait to see what the next year holds in store for us :)
Happy Birthday Sammie!

P.S. she has her own blog, you can go here to check it out! Sammie is currently working on losing weight, and she's the one who turned me on to the Nexercise app!

Back on the Bandwagon

Yep, last night I got back on the exercise bandwagon. Finally.

I mean, I've been playing intramural basketball games here and there, but nothing concrete or constant. My walking that started a few weeks ago was a total flop, and so I have gone back to P90X to help me out. Also, with P90X you are supposed to keep track of your diet (which I refuse to do being a college student on a budget with little time to cook) but I definitely need to weigh myself! Last I checked I was at 230-ish....yikes. I'm pretty sure it's the hardest thing I've done, and working out twice in one night may kill me (I have a basketball game tonight) or maybe I'll skip tonight's workout and push things back until tomorrow. After all, isn't some exercise better than none at all?

The best thing that is helping me is a nifty little app that my best friend turned me on to. The app is called Nexercise, and it looks like this:
bad picture from my iPhone, sorry!

It can track your movement as long as your phone is on your body, as well as what type of exercise you are participating in. If you don't want your phone on you, you can self report, but get less XP for the activity. You are awarded XP (exercise points) as well as medals for different types of activity. And you can sync with Facebook or Twitter and follow/compete with your friends which makes it even more fun! So you should get it then we can have fun while exercising!!

P.S. I will be doing another post later this afternoon, totally unrelated to this post come back later!

Weekend Blessings

Trying out Genghis Grill and catching up with one of the sweetest girls I know over dinner & some fro-yo for dessert....
Falling in love with this adorable Husky (I named him Bolt but I can't afford him)...
Getting to see Andrew after I thought I wouldn't...
Sleeping in and staying in my pj's until almost 2pm...
Shopping for a dress to wear for Ring Dance (it's this coming weekend!)...
Getting all dressed up for Muster...
My first experience at Chicken Oil, delicious!...
Enjoying the cooler weather (but my allergies are HATING it)...
Spending all of Sunday at the gun range...
Seeing Andrew for lunch and getting a free cookie from Fuddruckers...
Getting my homework knocked out before the week even starts...
Seeing Andrew (again) for dinner, which almost never happens...
Going to bed early only to wake up this morning and think it was still the weekend...
Counting down the days until graduation (exactly 19 days from today) and my birthday (exactly 20 days from today)...

That's my whole weekend. Nothing super exciting, but busy enough to where I can look back and say I had an enjoyable weekend. Tell me all about what you did this weekend :)

Rocking Chair

If you know me very well, then you know that I like to worry about the really small stuff. Like this weekend, I was freaking out because Walmart had screwed up my car and I freaked out and thought it would be broken for weeks. Then on Monday I took it to another auto shop and there was absolutely NOTHING WRONG with my car. Ridiculous.

It's little things like that and I always blow things out of proportion...I blame my mom's side of the family (we are a bunch of worry-ers). Sometimes everything is okay and I don't blow things out of the water, but other times I just go crazy!! I hope I'm not the only one who has this I'm working on it, and it's getting better but it will definitely take time.

In other news, Andrew and I had an intramural basketball game tonight, and we won!! We are officially in the semifinals (or Final Four) and I am so stinking excited :)

Mockingjay (and the other two books)

Today I finally finished The Hunger Games trilogy. And I'm a little bit sad that it's over. So, without further ado, here's what I have to say about each book. And do not read this if you intend to read the books...there are lots of spoilers!

The Hunger Games
Obviously if you have seen the movie then you understand the general idea. North America has been destroyed and in its place is a powerful Capitol and 12 districts (District 13 was destroyed as well during a rebellion). To remind the districts that the Capitol and President Snow are in charge, they hold the annual Hunger Games, where a boy and girl from each district are selected as tributes and must fight to the death. Katniss Everdeen volunteers when her sister Primrose is selected for the games. Peeta Mellark is also selected, who grew up with Katniss. Before Katniss leaves, she asks her best friend, Gale Hawthorne, to take care of her family. Once the games begin, Peeta and Katniss not only have to face the other tributes, but the Gamemakers and natural/unnatural elements. I thought this was an amazing book, and I couldn't stop reading it!

Catching Fire
In the sequel, Katniss and Peeta are rich and famous from winning the Hunger Games, but the Capitol believes that Katniss defied the Gamemakers, and uprisings have begun in the districts. The districts look up to Katniss as their leader, and she considers leaving District 12 with her family and friends, but reluctantly accepts her role as rebel leader. It is announced that the 75th annual Hunger Games, known as a Quarter Quell, will consist of only remaining tributes. Peeta and Katniss are once again forced back into the Hunger Games. It took me about 100 pages to actually get into the book, but once it got really good I loved it even more than the first book!

Katniss has again survived the Hunger Games, but President Snow ordered District 12 to be destroyed and captured Peeta. The few people that survived the bombing in 12 have fled to District 13, and everyone is looking to Katniss to rile up the rest of the districts. Eventually the rebels overtake the Capitol and Katniss's true feelings (does she love Peeta or Gale??) are revealed. I thought this book wasn't half as good as the other two, and a majority of the book were minor details that continued on and on. And then it was all over too soon. I didn't care for the ending, I feel like there should have been more closure.

All in all I loved the trilogy, and I can't wait for the next two movies to come out!

One Month.

Things are about to get serious. Today is the one month mark until graduation. Plus an extra day until my birthday. People ask me often if I am excited or nervous to graduate, and I have no idea what to tell them. I don't feel nervous yet, but at the same time I'm not really excited. I've spent the last five years here, and in just one month my undergraduate career will be over. Of course, I won't be leaving town just yet, I have a full time job lined up for the summer (I'm so blessed to be able to keep my current job through the summer!) plus my lease doesn't end until the end of summer.

I imagine once the date gets closer, I'll be more excited. But the fact that I don't know what I'm going to be doing after and not knowing is probably the worst. Hopefully I will know something by mid-June, and I promise I will keep you posted!

We're More Alike Than We Know

So tonight my sister was bored and decided she and her roommate Shelby would make the 45 minute drive from Huntsville. It was kind of late when they got here, but of course college kids are always up late! Shelby has never been to College Station, and Megan was completely shocked. So of course Megan said we had to do a campus tour, then check out the sorority houses. The entire tour took about 45 minutes (we went everywhere!!) but I think their favorite part was driving by Kyle Field and the almost open Memorial Student Center.

Now that I've given you a little backstory, here's the real reason for my post today. Yesterday was National Sibling day, and of course I posted about it on Facebook. My post said "I love you like the moon at night, big and round and warm and bright" and one of my bosses (who is from Ireland) didn't quite understand it and thought I was calling Megan fat!! Haha. Anyways, while we were in the car for that hour, multiple times we were discussing something and it was like Megan and I could read each other's minds...which usually never happens! We were always saying the same things at the same times, and it was weird but kind of cool and it made me realize that my sister and I are like two tall peas in a tall pod and I'm so thankful to have her as my sister :)

Yay for (a day late) National Sibling Day!

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

Since I've had more free time this semester, I have started reading books ALL THE TIME. I mean, seriously, who reads in college if it isn't homework or the night before an exam? Of course, I try to read books slowly rather than devouring them in a single day, which is probably why I'm only halfway through Mockingjay and I started it a week or so ago. This weekend Megan and I went to Target and I found some books I've been dying to pick up and they were on sale! Hopefully I can get through all six books before I buy more (even though Half Price Books sounds like a great place to find something new!) but I don't have much self-control over that. Oops. I'll tell you all about my books later :)

Oh, and my weekend was nice too. Busy, but I enjoyed every minute of it. But I think my favorite part (besides celebrating the death & resurrection of our Savior) was watching this video - thanks to my sister and her best friend for making me watch this!

Extra Special Day

Why is today extra special? Because it marks the day--3 years ago-- that Andrew and I started dating! Part of me cannot believe that it has been three years, and the other part of me feels like I have been with him for my entire life. I love him so much and the last three years with him has been such a wonderful blessing. We have been through so much (but so little) since then...does that make sense? But I'm sure in the years to come we will experience new challenges and obstacles, and I know I would never be able to get through those without his unconditional love!

Please forget the icky-ness of this photo, Andrew and I had just finished an intramural basketball game! We are 2 games into the playoffs, and currently 4-1, but I have no idea how many more games we will have.

Last night with the nasty weather going on Andrew ran all the way to the store just to get these for me! Aren't they pretty? Andrew mentioned to me that "flowers are so much cheaper when it isn't Valentine's Day!!" I laughed so hard :) I am beyond blessed to have a guy like Andrew in my life, and I cannot wait to one day spend the rest of our lives together!

oh, and just a side note: Andrew and I were planning to go out to celebrate our anniversary this past weekend but since his parents and my sister came to visit we had to postpone it until next weekend (as in the weekend after easter)

Song Obsession

In the last week, I've had two songs constantly stuck in my head. Maybe it's because I watched the ACMs last night, or maybe it's just because I will always love country music. Enjoy! Oh, and the surprise that I mentioned from Sunday (that I'm supposed to tell you about tomorrow) is going to be postponed until Thursday because tomorrow I have something extra special!! So without further ado, here's my latest music obsessions, enjoy!

New Motivation

About a week ago, I started working out again. I say "again" because nearly two months ago I started doing P90X because I was ready to get serious about getting into shape (in time for graduation). But about a week after starting P90X, I got injured pretty badly. You can read about it here if you really want to. Anyways, the injury was so extensive that it has been nearly 2 MONTHS and my knee still hasn't healed, which means any type of exercise aggravates it and causes it to hurt more. Which means that every basketball game I've played in since kills my knee. I still have a giant knot to prove it! I really want to do more P90X, but the pain is excruciating. But I am still determined to continue working out, so I've started walking about a mile at least twice a week. I know that I won't see immediate results, but I've gotta start somewhere. Plus I really need to get my weight down some...I weighed myself 2 weekends ago and I'm at my maximum weight of 230 pounds! Eeek! I saw that number on the scale and was devastated. I don't feel like I weigh that much, and everyone tells me that I don't look it, but the way my clothes fit tell a different story. But I need a way to hold myself accountable (minus going to workout with a friend....I never go to the Rec anymore) and I figured I could use my blog to help me out with this simple task! It's the baby steps that make the difference, so here's to making a big difference!

Cream Soda & Pizookies

I promise eventually I will recap the second half of my spring break....if I ever get the chance to photograph myself in the exciting things that I have to show you! Thursday night Andrew & I had an intramural basketball playoff game, and we won!! Andrew was a total beast and had at least 20 points. But nobody has any idea when our next game is....I'll keep you posted!

This weekend has been way too short. Friday night was somewhat uneventful, Andrew and I went to dinner and sat around doing nothing. Once he had to go home I got ready for bed and snuggled up with Catching Fire, which I finished! LOVED IT! Saturday morning was heavenly since I got to sleep in, then Megan showed up for a quick visit. We did tons of shopping (I'll tell you all about my surprise on Wednesday!) but turned up rather empty-handed. Andrew's parents came in for Parents' Weekend and we went to BJ's Brewhouse--it was delicious! I've never had (or even heard of) their famous Pizookie or their homemade root beer or cream soda, and we ordered two Pizookies! Amazing! But it became a serious problem last night, because without my gallbladder I apparently can't ever eat a pizookie because my upset stomach kept me awake until 4:30am. It was awful! Today was spent laying around the house, Megan came back in because of a mix-up at a makeup counter, and I started on Mockingjay, the 3rd book in The Hunger Games trilogy. Andrew and I were planning to go out tonight for our anniversary, but because I've been feeling sick we decided not to have any fancy foods. The rest of my night I spent watching the womens' Final Four games and the ACMs. Made for a great night!

All in all it was a nice weekend, but just too short! And it's hard to believe that there are only 5 weeks left of school! Hopefully tomorrow I'll get the chance to tell you all about the rest of my spring break and Wednesday's surprise :)
