What's OT?

Funny you should ask, because I'm almost an expert!

Have you heard about OT? Know what it stands for? In case you haven't heard about it, OT is short for OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY! The last few years I've spent pursuing my degree in occupational therapy and I'll be graduating in May (right around the corner practically!)

So back to the first question above. Here's what Google defines occupational therapy as.

oc·cu·pa·tion·al ther·a·py
noun
a form of therapy for those recuperating from physical or mental illness that encourages rehabilitation through the performance of activities required in daily life.

Nice definition! But what does that really mean? In a nutshell, occupational therapists help people of all ages to be independent in just about anything. The things a person finds meaningful aka occupations can be something as simple as tying your shoes or something more complex like preparing a meal and baking cookies for dessert! My job as a therapist will be to help people engage in meaningful occupations and increase independence.

Make sense? Good.

If that doesn't make sense or you just want to hear more about my exciting OT adventures, keep reading! You can find the topic occupational therapy under the "What I Blog About Most" section to the right and down a little of where you're currently reading. Check it out!
